Another painting of my neighbour, Ute’s garden. This time I have taken a wider view as I wanted to incorporate her colourful flowers and interesting pots into the composition of this patio. As usual one of her cats was lounging on a garden chair and I was happy to include it. I use Schmincke Horadam watercolours. The German manufacturers of the paints sent me a spot card of 35 new colours they have introduced to celebrate their 125th anniversary. The card comprises spots of the new pigments and I had great fun trying out some of the new pure colours, which this subject lends itself to, although most of the painting was done using my usual palette of colours.
The original of this painting has been sold to a collector in Portugal.

Born in Chelmsford, England. I grew up in Falmouth but lived and worked as an artist in Truro from 1970 until I moved to Spain. I have been painting since I was 2 years old but I also have a love of nature, my animals, classical music and dance. In 2002 I moved to Spain and now live in a cortijo near Alhabia, Almeria, Southern Spain. The scenery around my home provides endless, beautiful subjects for landscape and seascape painting and I get inspiration from the dramatic landscapes of Andalucia and the old cities, towns and villages which I usually paint in watercolour.
