My neighbour, Ute’s cottage garden is looking beautiful at the moment. With her green fingers and artistic eye she has created a charming Andalucian garden around her traditional cottage. She has also collected bits of old furniture to compliment the arrangements of her flowers and pots. In this corner an old Singer sewing machine table supports the flowerpots and alongside sits an old, metal chair which she recently found in an antique shop in Almeria. I thought this would make a charming study for a watercolour. At the same time Paint and Draw magazine wanted another workshop article from me so a six page article on how I painted this plus the painting featured on the cover will appear in their May issue.

Born in Chelmsford, England. I grew up in Falmouth but lived and worked as an artist in Truro from 1970 until I moved to Spain. I have been painting since I was 2 years old but I also have a love of nature, my animals, classical music and dance. In 2002 I moved to Spain and now live in a cortijo near Alhabia, Almeria, Southern Spain. The scenery around my home provides endless, beautiful subjects for landscape and seascape painting and I get inspiration from the dramatic landscapes of Andalucia and the old cities, towns and villages which I usually paint in watercolour.
