In this watercolour I wanted to capture the light and fresh colours of spring where I live.
Because we had some heavy rain in January and February the landscape Parque Natural de Cabo de Gata this spring has been remarkable for the colours of the wild flowers and the greens of the grasses. Hortichuelas is a small village just 2km inland from where I live in Las Negras. I deliberately did not overwork this painting or put much detail in as I was mainly interested in capturing the atmosphere of spring. It is not a very commercial subject and I painted it for my own pleasure but if you would like to obtain the original I will consider any offers.

Born in Chelmsford, England. I grew up in Falmouth but lived and worked as an artist in Truro from 1970 until I moved to Spain. I have been painting since I was 2 years old but I also have a love of nature, my animals, classical music and dance. In 2002 I moved to Spain and now live in a cortijo near Alhabia, Almeria, Southern Spain. The scenery around my home provides endless, beautiful subjects for landscape and seascape painting and I get inspiration from the dramatic landscapes of Andalucia and the old cities, towns and villages which I usually paint in watercolour.
