This group were performing flamenco in the square of my village, Alhabia in Almeria, Spain. I enjoy painting dancers and as soon as I saw this elegant young dancer, Aldara Cruz, I was inspired to paint her. I included the singer, José Contreras, and the guitarist Cristian Gil, in the composition to tell the whole story and add atmosphere to the work.
For my dance paintings I use Sennelier artist's pastels and Sennelier pastel card.

Born in Chelmsford, England. I grew up in Falmouth but lived and worked as an artist in Truro from 1970 until I moved to Spain. I have been painting since I was 2 years old but I also have a love of nature, my animals, classical music and dance. In 2002 I moved to Spain and now live in a cortijo near Alhabia, Almeria, Southern Spain. The scenery around my home provides endless, beautiful subjects for landscape and seascape painting and I get inspiration from the dramatic landscapes of Andalucia and the old cities, towns and villages which I usually paint in watercolour.
