The palace and gardens of the Generalife were built in the 14th Century as a summer retreat for the Nasrid Emirs of Granada. On the hill next to the Alhambra the Generalife is now a Unesco World Heritage site. Now is the time of year for the flowering of the wisteria which thrives in this part of Spain. There is a gorgeous display in this pretty corner of the palace and gardens. I hope this watercolour gives you as much pleasure as I had in painting it.

Born in Chelmsford, England. I grew up in Falmouth but lived and worked as an artist in Truro from 1970 until I moved to Spain. I have been painting since I was 2 years old but I also have a love of nature, my animals, classical music and dance. In 2002 I moved to Spain and now live in a cortijo near Alhabia, Almeria, Southern Spain. The scenery around my home provides endless, beautiful subjects for landscape and seascape painting and I get inspiration from the dramatic landscapes of Andalucia and the old cities, towns and villages which I usually paint in watercolour.
