Last week I visited Granada as it would be the last opportunity to paint scenes from the City until September. It is too hot to visit Granada in July and August but also the white, hazy light of high summer is not ideal for painting. In June though the light can be clear and intense and the colours in the city very rich, particularly the greens of the city�s trees. I looked for different compositions from the usual views so I strolled up the Sacromonte hill, the old gypsy quarter adjacent to the Albaicin, and found this perfect composition of Calle Enmedio Alta with the towers of the Alhambra behind.

Born in Chelmsford, England. I grew up in Falmouth but lived and worked as an artist in Truro from 1970 until I moved to Spain. I have been painting since I was 2 years old but I also have a love of nature, my animals, classical music and dance. In 2002 I moved to Spain and now live in a cortijo near Alhabia, Almeria, Southern Spain. The scenery around my home provides endless, beautiful subjects for landscape and seascape painting and I get inspiration from the dramatic landscapes of Andalucia and the old cities, towns and villages which I usually paint in watercolour.
