This is a pastel portrait of my 11 year old granddaughter Ellie. She has just been to stay with me for a week and I took the opportunity to create this portrait in pastels. I drew her holding my cat Tilly. The cat has been with me for 14 years and has made cameo appearances in many of my paintings. I wanted her to pose holding the cat as it tells a story more than just a formal portrait.
Winner of first prize in the FAA contest Women Painters - Artist of the month June 2017. Winner of 1st prize People and Animals together. May 2021.
Born in Chelmsford, England. I grew up in Falmouth but lived and worked as an artist in Truro from 1970 until I moved to Spain. I have been painting since I was 2 years old but I also have a love of nature, my animals, classical music and dance. In 2002 I moved to Spain and now live in a cortijo near Alhabia, Almeria, Southern Spain. The scenery around my home provides endless, beautiful subjects for landscape and seascape painting and I get inspiration from the dramatic landscapes of Andalucia and the old cities, towns and villages which I usually paint in watercolour.
